Much time was spent, but it was worth it: the inauguration and start-up of the first wooden tower for wind turbines took place on December 20, 2012. It looks down over Hannover today from a hub height of 100 m. The construction of this incredible tower was made possible by the HSK systems offered by TiComTec.
The challenges that had to be overcome when constructing a wooden tower for wind turbines included:
- High forces at the load application points
- Dynamic effects on the connectors
The only possible solution was to use connectors in which the cross section of the building components is only slightly weakened, forces are applied across the surface rather than punctiform, the components display ductile behavior in the event of failure, and dynamic stresses can be calculated accurately. The HSK systems with glued-in steel parts met these requirements and were used very successfully for the first time in the test tower for TimberTower GmbH. A test tower of 25 m was constructed in 2010.
