On roughly 8,100 m² the new “(Integrated) Design Building (I)DB“ of the University of Massachusetts will house classrooms and studios, computer rooms, lounges, conference and tele-conference rooms, a materials testing laboratory as well a green-building-laboratory, a timber workshop, a laboratory for digital construction, an outside working area, the managing area (only architecture and LARP), lecturers and employees, doctorands and a café, exhibition spaces, a library and function rooms. There will also be a sheltered patio on the first floor and a patio completely covered by a green roof on the third floor.

This building will have a sturcture made of glued laminated timber, cross laminated timber (CLT) as well as timber and concrete composite which will replace the common steel and concrete construction normally used in this surroundings. This system structure reduces the “carbon footprint“ of this building and maximizes the use of renewable raw materials. The high demands on economy, ecology, functionality and design could be fully met – also thanks to our HBV and HSK systems. To guarantee a smooth proceeding, the TiComTech GmbH CEO, Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Rainer Bahmer, visited the office of Nordic Structures in Montréal and the timber companies in Chibougamau, Canada, on 13th October, 2015. There the employees in charge as well as the local management were trained by Mr. Bahmer in handling the HBV and HSK systems.
